What is cocoa powder? Distinguishing between cocoa powder and chocolate powder
- Cocoa powder is a type of powder obtained from the seeds of the cacao fruit through a fairly complex process.
- The powder is dark brown, finely ground, and has a distinctive aroma. Cocoa powder and chocolate powder are two different types of powder that you should pay attention to in order to avoid confusion. Chocolate powder can be black, white, or brown depending on the type, and has different sweet and bitter flavors. In contrast, cocoa powder has a distinctive bitter taste, with a slight sourness and is fluffier compared to chocolate powder.
- You can buy cocoa powder at the Tastetutorial.com supermarket system nationwide or purchase online at bachhoaxanh.com.
Where to buy chocolate sauce and pickled cherries?
- You can easily find chocolate sauce and pickled cherries at mixing shops, bakeries, imported supermarkets, or order online on e-commerce sites.
- You can substitute chocolate sauce with dark chocolate, and you can replace pickled cherries with any type of pickled fruit or jelly fruit as well!

How to make Cake from Pancakes
-
Mixing pancake batter
Put 120ml of condensed milk, 50ml of cooking oil, and 60gr of sugar into a large bowl. Use a whisk to mix vigorously for 5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
Sift 140gr of all-purpose flour, 4gr of baking soda, 4gr of baking powder, and 25gr of cocoa powder into the milk and egg mixture, mixing well until all ingredients are combined.
Next, gradually pour 240ml of sweetened fresh milk into the mixture above, continuing to mix until the mixture is well combined, the batter is smooth, and there are no lumps.
Then, add 5ml of chocolate extract, mixing well to incorporate the extract into the batter.
-
Frying the cake
With the prepared batter, divide it into 3 portions to fry into 3 layers of cake.
Place a non-stick pan on the stove and heat a little cooking oil, using a cooking brush to spread the oil evenly over the bottom of the pan. When the oil is hot, pour one portion of the batter in, tilting the pan to spread the batter evenly across the bottom.
Cover and fry the batter for about 5 – 7 minutes on the lowest heat. After frying, open the lid to check if the batter has set; if so, flip it over and fry the other side for an additional 2 minutes.
Remove the cake from the pan and let it cool. In the meantime, use a paper towel to quickly wipe the surface of the pan clean, then heat a little more cooking oil and fry the remaining 2 portions of batter for the same amount of time.
-
Whipping the cream
Pour 240ml of whipping cream into a large bowl along with 15g of sugar and 10g of cocoa powder.
Using a hand mixer, beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until the ingredients are well combined, then increase to high speed and beat the mixture for another 2 minutes until stiff peaks form, lifting the beaters to see the mixture holding its shape.
Transfer the whipped whipping cream mixture into a piping bag.
-
Layer the cake and frost
After the pancakes have cooled down a bit, stack 3 layers of pancakes on top of each other in a straight line, then place a smaller plate on top. Use a knife to cut along the edge of the plate to make the edges of the cake neat and round.
Place the first layer of pancake on a flat surface, use a cooking brush to spread a little sugar syrup on top of the pancake. Next, pipe on a layer of whipped cream and smooth it out, then place the second layer of pancake on top.
Repeat the steps of spreading sugar syrup, piping and smoothing the cream, and place the final layer of pancake on top.
Then, cover the entire surface and sides of the cake with whipped cream, at this point use a spatula to smooth the cream evenly all over the cake.
Finally, drizzle 3 tablespoons of chocolate sauce over the top of the cake, create swirls as desired, add a few small scoops of ice cream around, and then place a soaked cherry on top to finish the cake.
-
Final product
The finished pancake cake has a soft, moist, fragrant sponge that is sweet with a light bitterness from the cocoa, extremely appealing. The cake batter is not dry at all but soaked with syrup, intertwined with rich whipped cream between the layers of cake.
This simple cake is quick to make yet still very eye-catching with the chocolate sauce covering the outside along with a few sweet and sour pickled cherries that are attractive. This will definitely be a wonderful gift for your beloved child on June 1st!

Ingredients for Microwave Cake Serves 4
All-purpose flour 160 gr Unsalted butter 255 gr (room temperature) Sweetened fresh milk 180 gr Yogurt 65 gr (room temperature) Granulated sugar 90 gr Powdered sugar 175 gr Baking powder 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract 1 teaspoon Food coloring a little (for decoration)
How to Choose Yogurt for Baking
- You should use unsweetened yogurt in a solid block form to soften at room temperature, avoiding jars that show signs of separation.
- You should not use drinking yogurt or overly thin yogurt; if possible, use Greek yogurt for baking, as this type of yogurt has a thick consistency that is very suitable for mixing dough and is also good for health.

How to make a Cake using a microwave
-
Mix the cake batter
You cut 85g of unsalted butter into small pieces and place it in a large bowl, letting it sit at room temperature to soften. Add 90g of granulated sugar to the bowl, using a whisk to mix until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Once the sugar has completely dissolved, pour 65g of yogurt into the mixture and mix well.
Use a sieve to sift 160g of all-purpose flour and 2 teaspoons of baking powder into the butter-sugar mixture, then continue to add 180g of sweetened milk and mix until the batter is smooth, with all ingredients well combined.
-
Pour the batter into the mold and steam the cake using a microwave
You line the bottom of the mold with parchment paper, then pour the batter mixture in.
Spread the batter evenly on the surface, and then place the mold in the microwave and cook for about 5 – 8 minutes.
After the cooking time, take the cake mold out and use a toothpick to poke through the cake batter; if the toothpick comes out clean, the cake is cooked.
-
Make the cake frosting
You put 170g of unsalted butter softened at room temperature into a bowl along with 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, using an electric mixer on medium speed to beat the butter until smooth.
When the butter is well beaten and smooth, add 175g of powdered sugar and continue to use the mixer to blend the mixture together.
