Ingredients for Animal-Shaped Jelly Serves 2
Chewy jelly 2 tablespoons Strawberry 2 fruits Kiwi 1 fruit Grape 2 fruits Dragon fruit 1 fruit Chocolate balls 10 gr Pandan leaves 50 gr White sugar 100 gr
What is chewy jelly powder?
Chewy jelly powder, also known as jelly powder or coconut jelly powder, is a type of powder made from carrageenan (Kappaphycus alvarezii syn. K. cottonii), which belongs to the red algae category.
Chewy jelly powder is typically used to cook with various fruit juices to create a beautiful translucent white. When finished, chewy jelly powder will produce a soft, wiggly texture for the final product.
How to choose fresh ingredients:
How to choose fresh strawberries
- Choose large, bright red strawberries that are plump and still have their green caps and fresh green leaves.
- Do not choose overripe strawberries as the flesh inside may be dry and hollow.
- Avoid choosing dull-colored, misshapen, and rotten strawberries. Additionally, strawberries with green skin and many spots should not be purchased because they will not ripen after being picked.

How to choose sweet ripe kiwis
- You should choose ripe and sweet kiwis that have a soft stem when pressed gently with your hand. Do not buy kiwis with a hard stem as they are unripe and will taste sour when eaten.
- Additionally, you should select larger, round kiwis with a certain degree of curvature. Avoid buying kiwis that are too large or too small, as well as those that are too soft, bruised, or misshapen.

How to choose fresh dragon fruit
- Choose dragon fruits that are large and round with smooth, shiny skin.
- When purchasing, carefully observe the skin of the dragon fruit. Only select fruits with even, bright colors that are not bruised or damaged.
- Good dragon fruit usually has soft, flexible fins that are easy to bend, bright green in color, and should not be wilted or dry.
- When touching the skin of the dragon fruit, it should feel slightly soft.
- When holding, it should feel heavy and solid; if you can detect a light fruity aroma, it is a good dragon fruit.
How to choose fresh grapes
- Choose grapes that are of moderate size, not too large, slightly soft, with a smooth, shiny skin and no bruises. Additionally, fresh and delicious grapes will have a powdery coating on the skin.
- Avoid selecting grapes that show signs of being overly soft or have blemishes on the skin, as these may be grapes affected by pests or soaked in chemicals.

How to make animal-shaped jelly
-
Prepare the ingredients
Wash strawberries, kiwis, dragon fruit, and grapes, soak them in diluted salt water for about 15 minutes, then remove and let them drain.
-
Cut into animal shapes
- Fish
Strawberry: Cut a thin round slice from the strawberry, then cut a corner in a V shape to form the fish’s mouth; the V corner just cut will be the fish’s tail, using a chocolate piece for the fish’s eye.
- Crab
Strawberry:
Cut 3 thin round slices as shown, 1 slice for the crab’s body.
The second round slice is cut into 2 small V shapes to make the large crab claws, and the third round slice is cut into 8 short straight lines to make the small crab legs around.
Continue using chocolate for the crab’s eyes.
- Turtle
Kiwi: Cut a thin round slice to make the turtle’s body. Cut the grape in half to make the legs and head of the turtle; for the legs, cut one half of the grape in half again. Use 2 small chocolate pieces for the turtle’s eyes.
- Starfish
Dragon fruit: Peel the dragon fruit, cut a thin round slice as shown to create a 5-pointed starfish shape.
-
Making jelly
Add 100g of white sugar to a bowl, then mix in 2 tablespoons of jelly powder.
Boil 800 ml of water, then add pandan leaves and the jelly mixture, bring to a boil, lower the heat to a gentle simmer or reduce the electric stove temperature from 2000 to 1000, stir continuously for about 5 minutes, then remove the pandan leaves and turn off the heat.
-
Pouring the jelly into molds
Pour a thin layer of the jelly you just made (about 1cm) into the mold and let it cool for about 3 – 5 minutes, then gradually arrange the fruit-shaped animals on top.
Keep the jelly warm while waiting to pour the second layer during the first layer sets.
Then pour the remaining jelly on top. Place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
-
Final Product
The jelly dish with cute animal shapes and eye-catching colors will surely delight your little one. The jelly is chewy and crispy on the outside, with a sweet and sour fresh fruit filling inside.
Tips for Making Delicious Dishes
- You can use other types of fruits such as watermelon or cantaloupe to create animal or flower shapes that your child likes.
- Feel free to adjust the amount of sugar to your liking.
- If you want a more delicious flavor, you can use coconut water instead of plain water to make the jelly.
- Remember to soak the fruits in diluted salt water for about 15 minutes to clean them!
