Information about types of whiskey
What is Rye Whisky?
- This type of whiskey is described by connoisseurs as stronger and more aromatic than its sibling, Bourbon whiskey, which has two different types: American Rye Whisky and Canadian Rye Whisky.
- American Rye Whisky: in the distillation mash of this whiskey, there is at least 51% rye, and it is aged for at least 2 years in new oak barrels. As a result, it has a distinctive aroma and spicy flavor, less sweet than Bourbon whiskey.
- Canadian Rye Whisky: is almost entirely made from rye, so it is also called “rye whiskey” and is aged for at least 3 years in pine barrels, giving Rye Whisky its own distinctive aroma.
What is Angostura Bitter?
- It is a concentrated bitter liquor with a Spanish orange flavor made by infusing herbs and spices.
- The liquor was first produced in the town of Angostura (now Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela), hence its name, but it does not contain angostura bark.
- Besides being used in cocktails, this type of liquor is sometimes also used in cooking, especially in soups to enhance flavor.
You can find these two types of liquor at cocktail ingredient stores or reputable e-commerce sites. When purchasing, be sure to check the packaging, bottle, cap, and expiration date to ensure quality!
