1 Arrange vegetables in the shape of an owl
Tools needed
To arrange vegetables in the shape of an owl, you need to prepare the ingredients and tools as follows:
- 500g baby carrots
- 200g cherry tomatoes
- 2 cucumbers
- 1 yellow bell pepper
- 1 yellow chili pepper
- 6 teaspoons of veggie dip sauce
- 2 bowls of dipping sauce
- 1 oval plate
- 1 knife
Steps to follow
Step 1: Prepare the ingredients
First, wash the prepared vegetables thoroughly and let them drain.
Next, cut the 2 cucumbers into thin slices horizontally.
Similarly, cut 1 yellow bell pepper in half and remove the seeds. Then, use a knife to cut it into thin strips vertically.
Step 2: Arrange the owl’s body and eyes
Place 6 teaspoons of veggie dip sauce into 2 bowls, then place 2 cherry tomatoes on top (one in each bowl). After that, position the 2 bowls of dipping sauce toward the head of the oval plate to create the owl’s eyes.
Next, arrange sliced cucumbers into 3 rows along the owl’s eyes to form the body, then gradually place baby carrots on top of the eyes to complete the head of the owl.
Step 3: Arrange the owl’s wings and legs
Place 2 rows of cherry tomatoes alongside the 2 rows of cucumbers, then fill the remaining gaps with thinly sliced bell pepper strips to create colorful wings for the owl.
Next, attach a horned chili in the middle of the eyes to form a quirky beak.
In the empty space at the end of the oval plate, arrange 6 baby carrots to form 2 legs with “sharp” claws for the owl as shown. And we have completed a colorful vegetable plate shaped like an owl to enjoy on Halloween!
2 Arrange mango into an owl shape
Tools needed
To arrange mango into an owl shape, you need to prepare the following ingredients and tools:
- 1 ripe mango
- 3 slices of carrot
- 1 grape
- 2 slices of banana
- 1 fruit carving knife
- 1 fruit scoop
- 1 plate
Steps to follow
Step 1: Create the body shape of the owl
Place the mango on a cutting board and use a knife to cut one side of the mango. Then, use a spoon to scoop out the fruit at the top of the mango to create two round eye sockets for the owl.
Next, use a fruit carving knife to cut vertical and horizontal lines on the remaining part of the mango (the distance between cuts should be about 1.5cm) and press from behind the skin to make the mango flesh pop out.
Now, place the owl’s body you just completed in the center of a plate.
Step 2: Creating the owl’s eyes
Place the 2 slices of carrot prepared earlier on top of the eye sockets. Then, cut 2 round slices of banana of appropriate size and place them on the 2 carrot slices to represent the whites of the eyes.
Next, cut the grapes in half and place them on the 2 banana slices to create the pupils. Now, we have completed the owl’s eyes.
Step 3: Creating the owl’s wings
Use a knife to cut the remaining part of the mango. Then, from the mango cheek, cut out a thin slice. From that thin slice, cut it into 2 parts to make the wings for the owl.
Next, use a fruit carving knife to make 3 straight cuts on the 2 pieces of mango you just cut and place them on either side of the body. Now we have completed the whimsical wings for the owl.
Step 4: Create the feet shape of the owl
Peel the mango and cut it into 2 rectangular pieces. For each piece, use a knife to make jagged cuts as shown in the picture below to create the feet for the owl.
Step 5: Create the eyebrow shape of the owl
Cut a round slice of carrot that was prepared earlier in half and place it on top of the eyes.
Then, cut the remaining mango peel into 2 trapezoidal pieces and place them on the 2 carrot slices to create the eyebrows for the owl.
Step 6: Finishing touches
Finally, place a thin slice of grape in the center of the owl’s eyes to create a cute beak. Now, let’s bring this vibrant mango owl plate to decorate the Halloween dining table!
