Ingredients for Unicorn-Shaped Chocolate-Covered Apples For 2 people
Apples 2 fruits White chocolate 200 gr Whipping cream 100 gr Fondant 500 gr (sugar candy) Vanilla extract 2 ml Edible gold dust 1/2 teaspoon Food coloring a little (optional) Sugar 50 gr
How to Choose Fresh and Delicious Apples
- Choose apples that have bright colors, shiny skins, and feel smooth to the touch. Avoid buying apples that are dull in color, bruised, blemished, or have worm damage.
- Choose dark-colored apples with small white specks on the skin as they are sweet apples.
- It is best to buy apples of moderate size, not too big or too small. The stem should be fresh and firmly attached to the fruit. Do not choose apples with loose stems or dried stems.
- Delicious apples have a very fragrant smell, feel round, firm, and heavy in hand. Press into the apple and feel it is firm and heavy. Try flicking it with your finger; if a clear sound comes out, it is a good apple.
You can buy ready-made fondant at specialty baking stores or e-commerce websites. Alternatively, you can make fondant at home using the recipe from Tastetutorial.com.
How to make Chocolate-Covered Apple Candy in the Shape of a Unicorn
-
Melting White Chocolate
Put about 200g of white chocolate in a bowl, and place it in the microwave to heat for about 5 minutes until the chocolate melts, or you can also melt it using a double boiler.
-
Dipping the Apples
Wash the apples, and remove the stems. Use a wooden stick to pierce through the stem area, slightly twist and press down gently to secure it.
Then, dip the apple into the melted white chocolate, rotating it to ensure the chocolate covers the apple evenly, and then place the apple on a plate (lined with parchment paper) to dry.
-
Make the unicorn horn
After kneading the fondant, roll it into a ball, then use your hands to gradually roll it out to make it longer.
Next, fold the two ends of the fondant stick together, then twist it to form a spiral shape.
Then, use a knife to cut off the folded part, placing the horn on parchment paper.
Mix about 2ml of vanilla extract or almond extract with 1/2 teaspoon of gold dust. Then evenly spread it over the entire horn. Make two like this!
Tip: When kneading the fondant, you should add about 1 – 2 drops of yellow food coloring to make the unicorn horn look more attractive. -
Make other decorative details
You can divide the fondant into several parts as you like and mix colors such as black, pink, blue, and purple as desired.
The unicorn’s ears:
Use a rolling pin to flatten white and pink fondant. Then use a heart-shaped mold with two different sizes, large and small, to press onto the flattened fondant.
Next, use a brush to apply a little water onto the small heart, then place the small heart on top of the large heart and press lightly to secure it.
The unicorn’s eyes:
Use black fondant, roll it into a long shape, and bend it slightly to resemble the shape of the letter “O”. Next, add a long piece attached to the tail to look like an eyelash.
Repeat this process until you have enough pairs of eyes for the unicorn.
The flower crown for the unicorn’s horn:
Use flower-shaped molds of different sizes, then press and gently twist them onto the flattened fondant.
Tip: You can color the fondant according to your preferences. -
Whip and mix the cream colors
For the unicorn wreath, besides using fondant, you can use whipping cream.
First, use an egg beater or a whisk to whip 100g of whipping cream with 50g of sugar.
Next, divide the whipped cream into 3 parts, then mix with food coloring as desired.
Put the cream into a piping bag and you’re done.
-
Completion
After completing each part for the unicorn, the final step is to assemble each part together.
First, put a little glue on the eyes and stick them in the middle of the apple.
Next, attach the horn part to the front of the skewer to cover it. The unicorn’s ears are attached to both sides of the horn, with the pointed part of the heart facing upwards.
Finally, attach the flowers around, or if you use whipping cream, pipe the cream in a circle to create a rose shape.
